Project Overview

The focus of the project was to improve the user experience, aesthetics, and accessibility of the existing app of one of the biggest banking institutions in the United States that primarily offers investment and financial planning services.

Preserving the essential features and flow of the app was vital due to its widespread use by users throughout the country. A team consisting of iOS and Android developers, UX designers, product management, business analysts, and the client worked together to release the first version of the upgraded app after dedicating 11 months of hard work.

Discovery Phase

As there was an existing hybrid app, a discovery session was organized to determine the requirements and objectives of the client.

The session involved conducting interviews, preparing relevant questions and scenarios, and deliberating on significant features and components of the app, which helped us with the necessary tools to ensure the success of the app's design and development.

Main goals for the app

Improve the user experience, create an accessible app and elevate the user interface

Findings

Conclusion

When designing this app, it required a great deal of effort, teamwork and collaboration. From conducting user research to understanding the client's needs and goals, to creating an intuitive user interface and ensuring the app is accessible, every step is crucial.

However, the satisfaction of finally launching a successful app that meets the needs of both the client and the users is truly rewarding. It is imperative to continue to monitor and make necessary improvements to the app to ensure it remains user-friendly, intuitive, accessible and useful.

The process while designing the app is ever-evolving, and by staying attentive to feedback and emerging trends, we can continue to improve the app's performance and user experience.

Obstacles

  • One of the biggest obstacles when designing the app is ensuring that it meets the needs and expectations of both the client and the end-users. Striking the right balance between functionality, aesthetics and accessibility was indeed challenging/

  • The API presented another significant challenge, given that the app was initially developed as a hybrid app, we had to adhere to specific coding rules and structures

  • Additionally, in order to keep costs under control, we made a conscious effort to incorporate as many native components as possible. However, this approach did impose some limitations on our ability to be creative.

  • Lastly, we needed to needed to ensure the app works seamlessly across different devices which was an obstacle particularly due to the large amount of data and content that we were working with.
